I love bookish content, but I don’t always get to churn out book reviews as often as I would like, and that is why I have decided to delve into the world of TBR – To Be Read – posts! They won’t be a monthly occurrence for me but I will post each time I have a new TBR pile to get through. I also want to aim for bi-monthly wrap ups too so keep an eye out for those in the coming months.
For now, I want to bring it back to my current TBR list.
They are…
- The Surface Breaks: A reimagining of The Little Mermaid by Louise O’Neill
- She: A Celebration of 100 Renegade Women by Harriet Hall
- Roar by Cecelia Ahern
- A Gentleman Abroad by Francis Brennan
- Ctrl, Alt, Delete by Emma Gannon
- Motherfoclóir by Darach O’Seaghdha

My current read!
The Surface Breaks
“Deep beneath the cold, stormy sea, Gaia is a mermaid who dreams of freedom from her controlling father. On her first swim to the surface, she is drawn towards a human boy. Gaia longs to join his carefree world, but how much will she have to sacrifice? What will it take for the little mermaid to find her voice?”
TBR
These are the books that I have on the shelf for a few months now but I have yet to read.
Roar
“Have you ever imagined a different life? Have you ever stood at a crossroads, undecided? Have you ever had a moment when you wanted to roar? From much-loved, international bestseller Cecelia Ahern come stories for all of us: the women who befriend us, the women who encourage us, the women who make us brave.
From The Woman Who Slowly Disappeared to The Woman Who Returned and Exchanged her Husband, discover thirty touching, often hilarious, stories and meet thirty very different women. Each discovers her strength; each realizes she holds the power to make a change. Witty, tender, surprising, these keenly observed tales speak to us all, and capture the moment when we all want to roar.”
A Gentleman Abroad
“From Vietnam to the Vatican, from India to Australia, and his recent bucket-list trip along Route 66, let Francis take you on a grand tour of his best travel memories and be inspired to see the world in a new light.”
Re-Reads
The books that I have loved so much I want to read again, or the books I had started but just didn’t get around to finishing them. I refuse to give up on a book!
SHE
“SHE is a love letter to all the women who have thrown out the rulebook and threatened the status quo. It’s a toast to the brave, bold and brilliant women who make us proud to be ladies.
From fashion icon Coco Chanel to Queen Cleopatra, from literary legend Jane Austen to trailblazer Michelle Obama and from kick-ass activist Malala Yousafzai to the one-and-only Beyonce, SHE honours 100 truly renegade women, from history through to present day.”
Ctrl, Alt Delete
“Ctrl Alt Delete is Emma’s painfully funny and timely memoir, in which she aims to bring a little hope to anybody who has played out a significant part of their life online. Her confessions, revelations and honesty may even make you log off social media (at least for an hour).”
Motherfoclóir
“Motherfocloir” [focloir means ‘dictionary’ and is pronounced like a rather more vulgar English epithet] is a book based on the popular Twitter account @theirishfor.
As the title suggests, Motherfocloir takes an irreverent, pun-friendly and contemporary approach to the Irish language. The translations are expanded on and arranged into broad categories that allow interesting connections to be made, and sprinkled with anecdotes and observations about Irish and Ireland itself, as well as language in general. The author includes stories about his own relationship with Irish, and how it fits in with the most important events in his life.”
That is what’s on my current To Be Read list, I am looking forward to diving into them throughout the next couple of weeks. It’s at times like these I am grateful for a book!
