The Summer months are flying by and it’s a crying shame, but we can always count on good tunes to lift our spirits and help us carry on!
With July coming to a close, it was time to share the albums and tracks that I have been loving all month long.
Albums
No. 6 Collaborations Project – Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran’s long awaited compilation album, No. 6 Collaborations Project was released on July 12th. With a star studded track listing of guest artists such as Khalid, Camila Cabello, Justin Bieber, Eminem and 50 Cent to name but a few, it’s been a real treat for the ears. Past releases of Sheeran’s have been equally loved and criticised by many but I believe there is a track for everyone in No. 6 Collaborations Project. I have included two tracks from the album in my playlist but as I have also listened to the album in full this month I will leave it linked below.
The Lion King: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2019
If you want to know what my July sounded like, then look no further. The 2019 Lion King soundtrack was my go-to listen almost daily for the month of July. Produced by Pharrell Williams with all music composed by Hans Zimmer, the 2019 soundtrack features songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice from the original 1994 movie while performed by the new cast with a new song by Beyoncé and an end credit ‘Never Too Late’ also written by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Believe me when I say this album is an absolute masterpiece, the re-working of the original tracks were enough to bring me close to nostalgia induced tears. Once again, I found myself gleefully singing along with the likes of ‘I Just Can’t Wait to Be King’, ‘Hakuna Matata’ and ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ whereas instrumentals like ‘Battle for Pride Rock’ drew me in, leaving me on the edge of my seat as if I knew what was already happening in the scenes it featured in without having yet seen it.
‘Spirit’ by Beyoncé is a powerhouse track that had me feeling like I needed to stand up and throw my fist in the air, it’s such a strong and confident anthem that fits the theme of Pride Rock perfectly. ‘Never Too Late’ by Elton John is a tune that will fill you with joy and make you want to dance out of the cinema as the credits roll. They may be two new additions to the movie and soundtrack but it’s as if they were always meant to be there and are sure to become timeless soundtrack classics in their own right. Both songs are included in my playlist, but again, I have also included the album in full.
This is July…
