Well, we made it to the end of 2020 and who would have thought we would be here, way back in March! Congratulations to US ❤️
December was more of a positive month for me despite Ireland seeing more Covid restrictions. I think it was such a busy time for me that I didn’t have time to think about anything else and I delved straight into listening to festive music and wrapping Christmas gifts (best part of the holiday season!) as soon as I got the break.
Music puts such a positive spin on things and this month it got me through assignment/project submissions and even filled me with Christmassy vibes, and it is that exact playlist I am going to share with you now. The majority of them are Christmas songs but not the traditional ones you’d expect, and although I know we are nearing the end of the holidays, you might want to have a listen and keep them in mind for next year’s playlist.
Let’s get started…
Album
Taylor Swift – Evermore
I cannot put album and December in the same sentence without mentioning ‘evermore’. Yes, just when we thought Taylor Swift couldn’t surprise us any more, she went and dropped her SECOND album of the year. Continuing on from Folklore, Evermore is just as emotionally charged, real and intimate. 2020 seems to have unleashed a new Taylor era that I am absolutely here for, and even during a time where releasing music isn’t exactly profitable, Taylor continues making and sharing new music in order to lift our spirits. There lies the reason she is the first woman in 29 years to hold both the no. 1 and 2 spots on the Billboard charts.
My current favourites from evermore are: ‘willow’ ‘tis the damn season’ & ‘cowboy like me’
Singles
Irish Women In Harmony – Together At Christmas
The first single I want to highlight is Together At Christmas by the powerhouse that is Irish Women In Harmony. This female supergroup began as a result of the first national lockdown and the need of funds for Safe Ireland. In December, however, they pulled together again to bring us a modern festive tune, this time raising funds for Childline. Together At Christmas is an amalgamation of the lyrics of all your favourite Christmas songs, all wrapped into one gorgeously delivered Christmas tune from some of the best female voices on the Irish music scene. I loved this new rendition, it really got me into the festive mood and it’s great to see money being raised for some of Ireland’s most deserving charities.
Liam Gallagher – All You’re Dreaming Of
It’s no secret that I am a Liam Gallagher fan – his MTV Unplugged album was one of my favourites this year – and when I heard he was releasing a song in time for Christmas I was ALL OVER it. As you can imagine, Liam Gallagher wouldn’t be one to release a traditional Christmas song so there are no bells or whistles attached to ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’, and they aren’t even needed. This high emotion ballad will give you all the feels and more. It’s a charming track of hope and love winning over times of crisis, and while it isn’t the traditional festive song as mentioned, it’s certainly a lovely holiday inspired tune worthy of it’s Christmas no.1 spot and top vinyl single of 2020.
This is December…
That concludes my final playlist of 2020! A second year of playlists down – which I can’t quite believe – I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and I wish you nothing but happiness and good health for 2021 ❤️ See you in January for round 3!
